The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is advertising this consultation on behalf of the Historical Stillborn Memorial Committee and the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board.
The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) is seeking community feedback to help inform the Historical Stillborn Memorial Project.
It seeks to acknowledge and truthfully reflect on past burial practices in Western Australia, and to provide respectful commemoration of these spaces today. It includes information about babies laid to rest in communal graves, the majority of whom were stillborn, reflecting past practices where babies who died before or shortly after birth were often interred without individual markers or formal recognition.
We recognise that this is a sensitive and deeply personal subject matter. Before completing the survey, we encourage you to read the Information Sheet, Government Acknowledgement and Frequently Asked Questions provided on this page.
Please note that discussions of stillbirth, infant loss and bereavement may be distressing for some people. Information about grief and support services is available in the documents section should you wish to access support during or after your participation.
This consultation closes at 6.00pm AWST on Monday 14 September 2026.
